HAPPY VALENTINE DAY!! I am sure most of you are enjoying this day with your Valentine. My valentine is also with me to enjoy this day with love and passion.
Recently visited a barbecue nation with my loving sister. enjoyed a lot, lots of chit chat …thanks di for wonderful luncheon the food was awesome especially pudding, among all puddings we enjoyed MIRCHI HALWA most.

This was the first time I heard this name Mirchi Halwa, In-fact, I was so curious that I started searching for the recipe soon I came back from the restaurant. To my surprise, I found out that this is a specialty of Maurya Sheraton a very famous luxury hotel chain of India.

Mirchi Ka Halwa

Yes, you read right. Mirchi ka halwa is especially popular in arid and tropical regions the state of Rajasthan. The marvel of Indian cuisine lies in its ingenious use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables, and fruits and transform them into delicious sweet treats. Mirchi ka halwa is a unique and interesting preparation of boiled green chili paste cooked with khoya and semolina.

From the net search I found out few recipes but I was not very satisfied with any. So I decided to mix and match two recipes and try it out myself. I got wonderful results and everyone at home including e few friends liked it and the best part is …..they couldn’t guess that it is made of green chilies, everyone guessed it differently.

How to make it? Is it spicy?

I am sure all these questions are in your mind. Believe me, this Mirchi Ka Halwa is not at all spicy It is as sweet as any other halwa. In fact, it is a rich and tasty halwa

What Ingredients are required?

To make Mirchi Ka Halwa I used a very simple Ingredients like

  • Mirch or chillies : chillies are the main ingredient of this halwa, it gives the special taste to it.
  • Khoya / Mawa : Khoya also known as mawa or khoa is dried evaporated milk solids. the milk is slowly simmered in a large iron kadai, till all its moisture evaporates and it reduces to solids. In Indian cooking, especially in northern parts of India, khoya forms a base of almost all sweets.
  • Alum : It is aluminum potassium sulfate. This is the type of alum that you find in the grocery store for pickling and in baking powder. We are using alum to mellow down the pungent taste of green chilli.
  • Semolina/sooji: This will give body to our tasty halwa.
  • Nuts : Let’s give a nice crunch and roasted flavor to our halwa.
  • Flavoring Agents: saffron and cardamom are the flavoring agents. I like to use both in sweets, if you want you can use any one of them.

If you are Indian sweet lovers like me, I would like to suggest you few more fudge/ halwa recipes which I had shared earlier like:
